Reasons for using Anker Carbo-Mag:

  1. Reduced heat on sidewalls and roof (longer furnace life, reduced refractory cost)

  2. Improved heat transfer from arc to bath (fast temperature pick-up, increased to T.P.H.)
  3. Ability to operate with longer arc (higher power factors)
  4. Reduced hydrogen pick-up (cleaner steel)
  5. High MgO coating on electrodes (reduced electrode consumption)
  6. Minimize slagline and bottom erosion (reduced gunning maintenance)

General Operating Practice

The following practice can be used as a guide line when starting to use Anker Industries Carbo-Mag 70. The best results will be obtained when you develop a practice that best fits your operating needs.

  1. Inject 4 lbs./ton of Carbo-Mag 70 about 20/25 minutes after putting power on the start bucket of scrap.
  2. Inject 3 lbs./ton of Carbo-Mag 70 about 15 to 20 minutes after charging finish bucket of scrap or prior to pushing scrap or taking early test.
  3. If the early Carbon melt-in is below .20 or if the Carbon is worked below .20, inject an additional 3 lbs./ton of material.
  4. During the refine period, inject material as required to keep the heat on a foam (20 to 30 seconds of injection will normally be adequate to foam the bath).

Note: Anker Carbo-Mag 70 has very little effect on the Carbon level of the bath, so the material can be injected at anytime in the heat cycle, without worrying about excessive Carbon pickup. [Top of Page]
